Operetta AP-5140A: This is Jaton's 5-channel modular amp. I have to say, I love this little amp! It delivers 70 wpc into 8 ohms and 140 wpc into 4 ohms. This is one of the smoothest solid state amps I've ever heard. It really does sing. New this one sells for $1600.

Thor TA-2000: This all tube preamp was originally manufactured as a TA-1000. It has all factory upgrades to full TA-2000 status. It has an outboard power supply and in my opinion, this is one of the very best preamps ever made. This preamp sold new for $9,490. It's here on consignment and has been offered at $2750. Music Hall MMF-5.1: This complete turntable system is a great way to get into vinyl records again. Our demo model comes with upgraded Grado Silver1 phono cartridge. It's a great unit. With upgraded cartridge, new this one sells for $950.

Linn Sondek LP12 with Cirkus, Valhalla and Nirvana upgrades, Akito Tonearm and Adikt cartridge: This consignment Linn LP12 turntable is nicely tricked out and it's in excellent condition. It comes with original boxes too. This is the classic turntable that is rated Class A by Stereophile Magazine every year. New with the upgrades, this unit sold for $3595. Nola Viper IIA loudspeakers: These open baffle speakers produce a huge, open soundstage that will involve you in your music like nothing short of the live performance. These are our demo units and they're in mint condition. They sell new for $6,000.

BG Radia Z-92: With their planar/ribbon midrange drivers and tweeters, these are one of the best sounding speakers around. Our demo units come with life-time warranty from the factory and will blow your socks off! New, they sell for $2,500. You can get these mint condition demo units for just:

Jaton Lyra HD-661 DX Loudspeakers: In their Piano Black gloss finish, these speaker impress at first glance. Once you hear them, you won't believe their price is so low. These demo units are in mint condition. New, they sell for $1600.

Nola Viper Reference Loudspeakers: Here on consignment, our units are in the natural cherry finish (like the above Viper IIs but without the piano gloss). They have outboard crossovers with Nordost wire connecting them to the speaker cabinets. These di-polar loudspeakers with ALNICO magnet drivers fill a room like live performers would. Big, natural soundstage with crazy-good dynamics and tone. New these speaker sold for $12,000. We've been asking $5,495 for these unit. Now you can get them for just:

Yamaha RX-V620 AV Receiver: This is another consignment 5.1 channel AV receiver that looks good and works perfectly. This unit sold new for $499.

Yamaha RX-V1500 AV Receiver: This is a 7.1 AV THX certified receiver. It also is a consignment unit and it's in great shape. It sold new for $850.

Yamaha DSP-E390: This consignment unit is a digital sound processor with 3 channel power amp for center and rear channel speakers. It can be used as a stand alone preamp processor or with the power amp. Nice unit. It sold new for $329.

Yamaha DVD-S540: This consignment unit is a versatile DVD player. It handles DVD+R/RW, CD-R, CD-R/RW, VCD and MP3 playback. This one is in great shape and it's priced to go. It sold new for $250.

Pioneer DV-59AVI: This is a consignment piece that should fly out of here at this price. This is a "universal" player, capable of playing CD, DVD, DVD-Audio, SACD and a full range of your personally recorded discs. The Elite model is the top of Pioneer's line and this was one of their best. It sold new for $1,600.

Sony DVP-CX985V: This consignment 400 disc DVD/SACD delivers superior audio and video and helps you organize your entire DVD collection. New it sold for $720.

Sony CDP-CX355: Here on consignment, this 300 disc mega-changer sounds good and performs like a champ. We have two of these unit in stock. New, these sold for $250.

Sony MXD-D3: CD player and Mini-disc recorder of excellent quality, this consignment unit is a real sweet heart. This model was used extensively in many radio stations to record music in a safe, convenient and high quality format. This sold new for $400.

Sony MDS-JE320: This is another Mini-disc recorder from Sony. These are getting very hard to find. This is a good one. New, it sold for $300.

Nakamichi DR-2: If you still listen to or record cassettes, this consignment Nak DR-2 is the one you want. It's a three discrete head deck that is belt driven with B and C noise reduction, bias fine tuning and a bunch more. New it sold for $800.

Yamaha GE-60: Here's a graphic stereo equalizer that will help the audio performance of your challenging listening room. It will allow you to tailor the frequency response of you system to your liking. Nice unit. Sold new for $380.

Sony CDP-X55ES: Here on consignment, this was one of the most successful CD player ever. With a somewhat warmish sound, it was a favorite of audiophiles in its day. It sold new for $900.

KEF Model 60S: These are small (10" tall, 7" deep) satellite speakers that are perfect for surround sound or small desk-top speakers. Here on consignment, these speakers can be adjusted to fire throughout a wide range positions. New, they sold for $320.

Thiel CS2: Classic speakers from one of the finest speaker manufacturers around, these CS2 speakers are here on consignment. They're in good shape and the sound very impressive. New, they sold for $1,400.

B&W DM 302: On consignment, these inexpensive speakers from B&W really sound good! Just 12.5" high and 7.5" wide, they don't take up much space, but deliver a nicely balanced sound. New, they sold for $250.

MB Quart Balcony speakers: Designed for surround speakers, these little guys look very good and sound quite nice also. They'd also be perfect for the side speakers in your 7.1 theater system. Here on consignment, new, they sold for $400.

MK V125 Sub: This sealed 12" powered subwoofer will make your home theater room shake with excellent bass notes. Not boomy like so many home theater subs, this one will do justice to music as well as your action movies. New, this consigned sub sold for $850.

Rotel RSP-960AX: This consignment preamp/surround processor is excellent for stereo music as well as your surround sound movies. This one is in great shape and is priced to get you moving. New, it sold for $600.

Rotel RB-930AX: Here is the perfect companion for the above Rotel pre/pro. It puts out 30 wpc of very musical sound. New it sold for $250.

ProScan PSLD40 Laserdisc/CD Player: Here's a LD player that works like a charm. One of the best in its day, this consignment unit is in very good shape. (pictured is the PSLD41 - this one looks very similar to the picture). New it sold for $450.

Pioneer CLD-1080 Laserdisc Player: This consignment Laserdisc player will bring your old LDs to life. It's in very good shape and works just fine. New it sold for $600.

ADC Model SS-315 Sound Shaper: Here on consignment is one of the classic EQ components - This stereo equalizer is one of the best. It sold new for $400.

Hughes HR10-250 (250 GB) 200-Hours Video Recorder

Direct TV HR 10-250: This Satellite receiver with 250 GBs of memory (up to 200 hours of TV programming can be recorded) is in great shape. If you have satellite TV, this device is one you should pick up. On consignment, it's available at a great price. New, it sold for $699.

Sony SAT HD200 - Satellite TV receiver - DIRECTV

Sony HD200 SAT: Here's another Satellite receiver with plenty of memory to record all you favorite programs. You'll need a DirecTV satellite. New, this consignment unit sold for $799.

Here's Ed Sapiega's latest edition of "Jazz, Man" for your edification and reading pleasure.

Thelonious Sphere Monk (1917-1982) If you've spent any time at all investigating the history of jazz, you know that he was among the greats. His iconic piano stylings resonate throughout the jazz world. He wrote over 80 songs during his lifetime. Several of them are considered classics today.

Monk challenged the listener in ways that make him unmistakable: the offbeat accents and the style and the notes that didn't seem quite right grab you and twist your face (usually into a smile). Even though he recorded many of the songs multiple times, each version is different—you might consider that each is a little more or less Thelonious. You might also consider that you're seeing different aspects of the musical genius that he was.

Many of his songs were written for those close to him. "Ruby My Dear" was written for his (teenage) girlfriend, Ruby Richardson. "Skippy" was written for his sister-in-law. "Jackie-ing" was written for his niece (Skippy's daughter). "Little Rootie Tootie" was for his son, Toot. Little Toot learned to whistle before he could speak. The whistle sounded like the cartoon character, Little Toot the Tugboat. As you can see, Thelonious wasn't bound by tradition. "Boo Boo's Birthday" was for his daughter Barbara. "Green Chimney's" was written about her boarding school. "Crepuscule with Nellie" was written for his beloved wife, Nellie. This song was always played as written and was never soloed over by Monk or his sidemen.

"Pannonica" was written for his friend (and patron) the Baroness Pannonica de Koenigswarter, as was "Ba-lue Boloivar Ba-lues-are" (though technically, it was about the Bolivar Hotel where she lived at one time). "Coming on the Hudson" was written at her house that overlooked the river. "Hackensack" was written for Rudy Van Gelder, a noted recording engineer for Prestige and other labels. "In Walked Bud" was written for Monk's dear friend Bud Powell.

So, for Monk, it was very much about family and friends—those closest to him. His extended family of nieces, nephews, brother and sister was not just close, but an inspiration to him to write some of the classics in the jazz canon.

Every month we add new items to the consignment list (see it at the end of this newsletter). We even have music on consignment—CD's, LP's and even Laser Discs.

At consignment businesses, consignment fees typically run as high as 50% and 60%. But we've kept ours at 40% for years.

Full-service consignment, which means we display, advertise, present and demonstrate your gear, just as we do our own new gear. We handle any customer inquiries (send them pictures, specs and other relevant information) and find a buyer; we process the payment and deliver the gear to the buyer; we handle after-purchase questions and issues and mail you a check for the net proceeds from the sale. For full-service consignment, Consignment Option 1, the fee is 40%.

Consignment Level 2 is the same as Level 1, but you keep the gear until it’s sold. We advertise and promote your gear, handle customer inquiries (send them pictures, specs and other relevant information), find a buyer and handle the sale. But once it’s sold, you deliver the item to the buyer yourself. We send you a check for your net proceeds from the sale. For Consignment Option 2, the fee is 25%.

Increase Your Proceeds by 10%: This is simple. If you leave your proceeds from the sale on account with us to apply to your own product purchases here at Sweet Home Audio, we reduce our consignment fee by 10%.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When we sell a used item, we do our very best to represent the product exactly as it is. This is very important! One of our most critical operating principles is that "we deliver what we promise." This is not just a slogan for us but the way we actually operate. When we have the used item here in our store, we can verify the operational status and physical condition of the products. When we don't, we try to get pictures and other information about the items so that we gain confidence that the product is as stated. In these cases, we also delay payment until the buying customer has received the item and verified that it truly is as promised.

Existing agreements: Needless to say (but here it is anyway!), all current consignments that we now have will continue under whatever agreement was made at the time of the consignment. The above Consignment Levels apply to all new consignments. Of course, our policy to deliver what we promise applies to everything we do.
