LSA: "Living Sounds Audio" has just released their newest speakers!
Successfully debuted at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show in January, Living Sounds Audio is now shipping the much anticipated LSA .5 bookshelf speakers. The LSA.5s are based in the acclaimed LSA1 Monitors, but featuring a smaller cabinet, a 5 1/4" woofer, front ports, and flush rear jacks to accommodate bookshelf placement. Retaining the same fabric dome tweeter as in many of our other speakers, along with the organic 'family' tonality that LSA is known for, the .5s are sure to provide hours of listening pleasure in a smaller speaker. Here are the specs:
As you can see from these specifications, these speakers are very easy to drive, they're small and they have excellent bass extensions. They're available in the Rosewood veneer (pictured above) or black. They're beautifully built, sound wonderful and, perhaps best of all, they're only $799 for a pair of them. We have them in our showroom now. Seriously, for $799 there is simply nothing out there that can touch them! Give us a call and come in and give them an audition.
If you're in the market for loudspeakers, you really need to hear these wonders! The Nola Contender is a slim floor-standing tower loudspeaker that is a major step up from the very popular Nola Boxer bookshelf. Compared to the Boxer, the Contender offers sonic improvements in the areas of depth reproduction, dynamic range, low level resolution and bass extension. The low frequency response has been extended to a conservative 35 Hz with usable response to 25 Hz. The bass quality of the Contender, however, maintains the quick and nimble characteristic of the Boxer. As superb as the Boxers are, the Contenders are superior in every way.The driver complement consists of two low mass 6½ inch bass drivers and one high resolution silk soft dome tweeter in a vertical array. Each bass driver is housed in a separate chamber and is individually ported. This technique, while costly, eliminates driver interference and provides increased clarity. The upper driver is ported to the rear, while the lower driver is loaded by a downward firing port. The chambers are tuned to different frequencies to provide the smoothest and most extended in-room bass response. The Contender is a true 3-way system with the benefit of increased mid-range clarity, yet it maintains the coherency of a good 2-way. We feel this approach, while more costly, is superior to a 2½-way design where both the bass and bass/midrange drivers have to cope with deep bass reproduction. The Contender maintains the smooth 8-ohm impedance characteristic and high 90dB sensitivity of the Boxer so that use with amplifiers of 30 watts or more is feasible. The Contender footprint is the same as the Boxer.

EBS 1 Bookshelf loudspeakerThe Electrocompaniet EBS 1 loudspeaker is a 2 way bookshelf standing bass reflex construction, with 6,5 inch woofer and a 1 inch tweeter. The cabinet is made of MDF with double sandwich side panels and four internal strutting's to ensure minimum resonances. Total thickness of the side panels is 24 mm. Front and rear panels are made of 18 mm MDF. The woofers have a solid magnet structure with a long throw design to ensure well-controlled and tight bass reproduction even at relatively high SPL. Speaker cones are made of selected coated paper in order to give maximum musicality and a smooth frequency response. As tweeter we use a 25 mm silk dome with ventilated magnet system and damped rear chamber to ensure minimum compression and good musical properties, not often used in loudspeakers at this price level. All units are custom made to Electrocompaniet to meat our high requirements regarding sound quality.

George (Rufus) Adams
Here's Ed Sapiega's latest edition of "Jazz, Man" for your edification and reading pleasure.George Adams Recently, I wrote about pianist Don
Pullen. It is difficult to speak of him without mentioning his long term band
mate, George (Rufus) Adams. George played tenor saxophone, bass clarinet and
flute, sang and composed in the “modern creative style.” His tone was at times
breathy like Ben Webster, bluesy like John Coltrane, and surprising like David
Murray. Some people point to Rahsaan Roland Kirk as a primary influence. George was born in Covington., GA in 1940. Covington is a smallish city of 11,550 people. Other than being George's birthplace, it has become a film (“My Cousin Vinny”) and TV star (“Dukes of Hazzard”). George started out on piano at 11 years old. Soon, he was accompanying the choir at church followed by the high school band and rhythm and blues bands. After college, he played with Sam Cooke followed by stints in organ-tenor combos in Ohio. By 1966 he was touring Europe with the Hank Marr group which included James “Blood” Ulmer. In 1968 he, like many jazz musicians, made the move to New York and played in groups led by Gil Evans, Roy Haynes, Art Blakey, McCoy Tyner and Archie Shepp. From 1973 to1976, George met up with Don Pullen in the Charles Mingus band that recorded Mingus Moves, Changes One and Changes Two. These latter two releases were recorded at the same recording session and include George's throaty, blues shouter voice on the song “Devil Blues”. George and Don formed their own quartet playing, recording, and touring continually from 1979-1987 leaving a well recorded history as one of the great jazz groups of the 1980's. After their group broke up, George went on to play with the Mingus Dynasty Band (a repertory band performing Mingus compositions) and the group Phalanx, with his old friend James “Blood” Ulmer. George was diagnosed with cancer that ravaged his health in 1991 and passed away in 1992 and we lost a unique voice who brought blues and gospel to the post-bop era. His musical partner, Pullen, composed a song “Ah George, We Hardly Knew Ya” on one of his final CDs. - Ed Sapiega
