Special Deal - This month only - Save $300!
When we got our Boxers in, we set them up in
our listening room with the very sweet Cayin A-50T tube integrated amp (16 wpc
in Triode, 35 wpc in Ultralinear mode). The sound was simply amazing.
This was such a great match, that we're offering a package deal this month with
these two. Buy the Nola Boxers and Cayin A-50T integrated amp together for
just $2,595 (a savings of $300!) To
sweeten it even more, when you buy this package, we'll give you a very special
deal on speaker cables and interconnects of your choice too.
We respect the territories of other Nola and Cayin
dealers, so you must be in an acceptable territory for us. Call us (727)
446-2505).
The Boxer with its high sensitivity and easy impedance
curve make it an ideal partner for this modestly powered tube integrated amp
from Cayin. The pair together produce a rich, textured, deep and natural
sound that draws you in like nothing I've ever heard in this price range.

Here's a bit of the review of the Cayin A-50T from
Stereophile:
"...the
Cayin A-50T is competitive with many higher-powered, more expensive integrateds,
both tube and solid-state, and its strengths rival those of many far more
expensive tube separates I've heard. Finally, the 35Wpc A-50T behaves like an
amplifier that puts out twice its rated power—or more. I strongly recommend that
anyone considering spending up to $2000 on an integrated amplifier listen to the
magic that the Cayin A-50T can produce." - Robert Reina, Stereophile

How do you get to Carnegie Hall?
Here's Ed Sapiega's latest edition of "Jazz, Man"
for your edification and reading pleasure.
Jazz Artists
- the art of improvisation
You don’t become a jazz musician by playing an
instrument.
My
introduction to jazz was though my local library's worn copy of Ahmad Jamal's LP
“At the Pershing.”
I was familiar with the tunes themselves but Ahmad kept moving notes around and
toying with the melody. And yet it was just perfect. At the time I did not
know that improvising was at the heart of jazz.
It seemed as if jazz improvisers played
creatively, without rules or secret codes. A naive and misguided thought.
Improvisation requires total command of one’s instrument, immersion in music,
and familiarity with a large number of songs and lyrics and a large dose of
creativity.
To master an instrument, it takes about 10,000
hours of practice or roughly five years if you approached it as a 40 hour per
week job. During that time one learns musical terms such as notes, scales,
time signatures, chords, measures, melody, rhythm, music theory and a whole
bunch of Italian phrases along with their abbreviations.
Simultaneously, one learns and memorizes
songs. The underlying chords and changes feed the improvisation and the lyrics
provide an emotional context.

So what’s the point? After my six years of
learning saxophone, diligently taking weekly lessons, and practicing for an hour
when life didn’t require my attention elsewhere, I finally reached a point where
I was shown a (the?) most basic form of improvising. It was my first small
glimpse into one basic jazz process. And it is going to take a lot of practice
to make it sound right.
And jazz artists make it sound so natural and
easy. How long does it take to learn creativity?
